Golf is unique from other sports because players learn values like honesty and responsibility by calling penalties on themselves and reporting their own score. The sport is a perfect platform for helping young people develop character because just like in life, players experience the highs and lows of the game.

A Message from Our Instructors

Thank you for your interest in First Tee - Louisville. For the 2021 season, we will be offering more programs which concentrate on helping the participants move through the certification process of First Tee - PLAYer, Par, Birdie, and Eagle.

2021-22 School Outreach

Are you a teacher in the Louisville area? First Tee - Louisville has a School Outreach Program where we can come visit your school. The Program is completely FREE and we transport all of the necessary equipment.

2021 Program Descriptions

First Tee - Louisville offers Programs for Participant of all levels of experience, incorporating both the Participant's golf as well as Life Skills.

From age 6 through 17, youth progress through different levels by demonstrating The First Tee Nine Core Values, life and golf skills as well as passing an assessment. All participants regardless of age start at the PLAYer level. The pinnacle of First Tee is completing Ace Certification. PLAYer (required minimum age 6) – Tee up for the first time and learn the game of golf and The First Tee’s Code of Conduct. Par (required minimum age 10) – Focus on interpersonal and self-management skills on and off the course. Birdie (required minimum age 10) – Emphasis on setting goals and making them a reality. Eagle (required minimum age 12) – Learn resilience, conflict resolution, and future planning. Ace (required minimum age 14 or entering 9th grade) – Put it all together and hone in on setting goals, career education, and giving back to the community.

Common Questions

When are classes?

Classes are held in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. We offer programming Monday-Thursday during each season.

Where are they held?

Classes are currently offered at seven sites: Shawnee Golf Course, Seneca Golf Course, Bobby Nichols Golf Course, Long Run Golf Course, Sun Valley Golf Course, and Quail Chase Golf Club. We also have an affiliate site in Brandenburg, Kentucky at the Meade Activity Center.

How much does it cost?

A session is compiled of 6 classes. An entire session of classes is $50.00. If you are in need of financial aid, please request a scholarship when registering your child for programming

What equipment is needed

Junior clubs, golf balls, and learning equipment are provided for your junior golfer to utilize. The first week each youth participant that doesn’t have his or her on clubs will be provided a free starter set. If a junior golfer has their own golf clubs, we encourage them to bring those to practice.

What should the participant wear?

Appropriate clothing consists of: a shirt,  pants or short, and any type of athletic shoes.

What are classes like?

Class size and age vary according to the class your child is enrolled in. Classes incorporate valuable life skills into learning the basics of the game of golf.  We teach the youth not only what these life skills are but how to apply them to golf, school, and life.  The PLAYer level focuses on more on our core values, Par empahsizes interpersonal and self management skills, Birdie focuses on goal setting, while Eagle teaches resilience, conflict resolution, and future planning, rounded out with Ace culminating and bringing all the previous lessons together.

Additional benefits include: a free membership to Youth on Course (Youth on Course is a membership which offers discounted rates for junior golfers at various courses in the area), free access to multiple youth courses, and much more!

There are several locations the area where your child can practice. Shawnee Golf Course has the Justin Thomas Foundation Youth Course, Seneca Golf Course Par 3 youth course, and the Long Run Golf Course Par 3 youth course.  Along with this contact any of our program locations about range usage and tee times on the courses to utilize your Youth on Course Card!
